20 Things You Didn’t Know About Me
I love to be outside, walking especially. In cities or in nature, anywhere I can see the trees and life going on around me. Smelling fresh cut grass, or flowers, or the fragrant earth, makes me almost giddy.
In the company of a group of friends, I’d rather listen than talk.
Every time I hear Star Spangled Banner I cry.
I like to sing along to songs though I usually get the lyrics wrong. This drives my husband crazy.
I like industrial landscapes—smoke stacks, factories, and machines—of all kinds.
A friend once told me that I should have lived in the 1940’s. I used to sport a sort of pompadourish coif. In that same decade (when I was in my 20’s), another friend gave me a black, velvet, mini-skirt out of her own wardrobe. She told me that I needed to update my look, to above the knee. Even now I tend to be more retro in my tastes. I love black and white movies and classic novels. And I like talking to old people.
On occasion when I am late for an appointment, I get really stressed.
I read fiction every night before I go to sleep.
I love to talk to people who are passionate about their work, whatever it might be.
I’m a loud laugher.
When a friend comes to me with their troubles I tend to morph into Ms. Fixit. Since becoming more self aware, I’ve been trying to hold back and be more solicitous. At least I’m better than I was!
I love to eat out, sushi restaurants especially.
Italy is my second favorite country.
Maine is my second favorite state.
My favorite animal is the raccoon.
My only requirement for friendship is sincerity.
I miss my grandmother, Nona Elvira.
Many years ago, a co-worker told me that I was the most intense person he had ever met. I’m still not sure if that was a compliment. Maybe not!
I love to hunt for treasure like searching for designer clothes at bargain prices.
If for some reason I could not be a writer, I’d want to be (in this order): fine art collector, museum curator, goldsmith, biologist, gardener.
